Kyle Turner (Eric Bana), a retired and reclusive detective, has decided to live in peace in the remote Australian outback after the tragic events of an old case. But when a teenager mysteriously disappears near his home, the local police and his old friend, Paul Suter (Sam Neill), urge him to return to the case. Despite his initial reluctance, Kyle cannot resist his sense of duty. As he investigates the case, he discovers that it has connections to a series of old murders that he has been unable to solve during his career. Along the way, he encounters characters such as Jill Beaudoin (Rosemarie DeWitt), a curious reporter, Nia Vasquez (Lily Santiago), a young and energetic police officer, and Shane McGuire (Wilson Bethel), a tough-as-nails officer. Each has secrets, and the truth is more complicated than initially thought.
